The local castle

It overlooks the village of Castle Rising, so the castle itself is called Castle Rising Castle. It was built soon after 1138 by Baron William d'Augigny and Lord Howard of Rising who lives in the village is a direct descendant of the Baron.

Queen Isabella was kept here disgraced by her involvement in the murder of her husband King Edward II on 21 September 1327.
