Woolly Bears

These are two of the three woolly bear caterpillars I moved out of the road when we were on our walk this morning. They are among the few fuzzy caterpillars that I know to be not *spicy* - so I'm not afraid to simply pick them up and shift them.

According to this article about them: "The woolly bear caterpillar holds a prominent place in folklore, particularly as a weather predictor. According to a widely held belief, the width of the black band on the caterpillar’s body can predict the severity of the upcoming winter. It is said that a thicker black band indicates a harsh winter, while a thinner black band suggests a milder season." This information is not the least bit helpful given the colors of this couple... Hahahaha!
