Waterfall

This is the Khon Pharpheng waterfall on the Mekong, close the where the river leaves Laos and enters Cambodia. At 10 km across, this is said to be the world’s widest waterfall. In colonial times, the French found this waterfall to be a major impediment to their wish to establish trade routes into China using the river.

With a length of nearly 5,000 km, the Mekong is the world’s 12th longest river. From this point it has nearly 1,000 km to flow through Cambodia and Vietnam until it enters the South China Sea.
