a lifetime burning

Everybody likes a Robin it seems, although they can be a bit of a bully when it comes to some of the other small birds. But it pays to be determined if you are going to be small.

The Robin having taken up residence locally, now regards the garden as his patch; although he hasn't yet learned to sit on the feeder.  At the moment he flies to the base of one of the nearby shrubs, where there is good cover, and then flies up to the feeder, to hover next to it while he grabs a single sunflower heart.  You wouldn't think that the energy expended vs energy gained equation would make it worth his while; the avian equivalent of eating celery.

He only goes up to the feeder infrequently at the moment so I've not yet managed to capture his hovering with the camera.  I nearly managed it but he had his back to me and the shot didn't show his head. I hope that he's a slow learner, as that might give me a chance to photograph his hover in the next few days.  But it probably won't be tomorrow, as it is due to be wet tomorrow and I've a host of chores to get done in the house.
