A day in the life

They're back

My landlord, the farmer, has started to move his cows back from their summer-grazing fields to here, where they will stay until sometime next May.

Some weeks ago, he moved the first lot, four cows from a field that started to have too little grass left. They were already a herd, knew each other well and had plenty of space and food. But now, a couple of cartloads of new cows, from another field has arrived, with their own hierarchy, that all of a sudden meets the ones already here. They got along well in May, before they left for summer grazing but they've developed new leaders over the summer and the fighting for power began immediately. Quite human actually.

There are 26 more cows, from different fields and herds coming. It'll be an interesting, lively and quite a noisy couple of weeks around here...
