Sunday Morning
A lot of fog this morning that burned off as we walked; very eerie, glorious, and finally just so pretty. We saw a pair of bald eagles in their favorite perch above the railroad track.
Then we spotted a utility truck sitting on the track (using iron wheels to move along instead of its tires) and talked to the driver who explained the strange, specialized maintenance train that was working farther along. That train is about six railroad cars long with an electric engine at one end, something like a caboose at the other end. Between is a long stretch of flat-bottomed cars connected so the big Caterpillar sitting inside can move back and forth as it does its work. The Cat has a grinding, cutting, brush-like attachment used to hack away at the weeds, small trees, and berry bushes that get too close to the tracks. See the Extra; all so fun to watch.
