Basketball Girl
This little girl has caught my eye. It's week 2 in the 4-week Basketball Summer Camp at the Yerwood Center and I have offered to go up to the Center twice weekly after work to take photos of the girls and boys and to shoot video footage. It's kind of interesting to have an iPhone in my left hand and a camcorder in my right. I learned after week 1 that more is less: the quality of the iPhone photos is not great in a large gym that has deep pockets of shadows in certain areas. So, lesson learned, I brought up my Canon camera to the Center.
What a difference: as of when this picture was take I have taken about 300 shots showing kids doing jumping ropes, ball handling, shooting, running and playing.
Also some tender moments of coach Vanessa Gidden consoling a child with bruised fingers or hurt thighs after being knocked down. The more you watch, the more you see stories unfold and kids' personalities revel themselves. It's pretty great.
There are young and old kids. The young kids are tough little cookies and it's amazing how far they throw the ball when it's a big as they are. This little girl is one of those little kids. And she's having a well-earned rest
