Maybe this bloke is one of those people who feel that you have to walk barefoot to really feel the earth beneath you; by removing the usual padding between yourself and your surroundings you connect with them, feel what they feel and what they're telling you - the soreness you feel in your feet after a long barefoot walk is only a fraction of the pain the earth feels after being trampled on by humanity all these years...
