Bessyboot
The weather has been grey and miserable for a couple of days, I noted car headlights on at 1.30pm on the way to Tesco on Thursday. Photographic gloom also set in.
A ray of light was predicted on Saturday, I suggested a revisit to Bessyboot, I thought we had been over it in 2017 on a hill bagging / 10peaks recce run but Summitbag disagreed and so I needed to tidy it up for the Wainwright list.
The hike from Seatoller leads up steeply over difficult ground to a plateau and the curiously named "Tarn at Leaves". A short ascent from there to the summit of Bessyboot with fine 360deg views. The blip is looking west towards Honistor Pass, guarded by Black Star, we stood on that summit last year and can confirm that is a "big off" down into the pass below...
From Bessyboot we retraced back past Tarn at Leaves and over to Rosthwaite Fell, the summit was a a large stack of rock which required a bit of scrambling to summit. Extra is Jess on the summit with Bessyboot below right pointed out by the rainbow.
Legs were starting to complain and we were getting rained on, plus we knew the descent back to Seatoller was not easy so we called it a day.
There are more Birketts up here for another day.
A celebratory quaff in the remote Langstrath Inn on the way back.. £15:20 for 2 pints and 2 packs of Crisps!
