Comet watching

A busy morning of paperwork and emails then once the sun came through a long afternoon in the garden catching up on tasks. Greenhouse cleared of the few remaining cucumbers and many tomatoes; trays emptied and roots dug out; a few leeks and onions dug upon autumn onions planted; front fence repainted where chipped; back gate repainted completely.

Dog walked. Then change from shorts to wrap up warm as the temperature had dropped with the clear skies as we went up Blackford Hill to look for comet A3. Or Tschuchinshan -ATLAS last seen 80,000 years ago. There were some 30 or so others there too.

We did not know the best time to see it so ended up standing for nearly an hour and a half staring at the horizon where there was some low cloud.

Only when we used the phone/camera and looked up did we see the light of the comet and the tail. It was higher in the sky than I had anticipated. It was extremely faint and I can claim only to have “seen it” through a digital lens.

A photo or two attached. You have to look closely. Back home late and cold but very content.
