Bird on a squash
Saw this squash on the table in the vegan cafe where I was going to eat a very early supper. It looked like it had a little bird perched on top of it which is why I noticed it! I had a truly delicious squash and lentil soup, large bowl, and a couple of pieces of vegan sour dough focaccia which was not a good substitute for the original variety. I was eating early as we had a choir practice at 5.30 and then I was going to the theatre with a friend to watch the Welsh National Opera orchestra, soloists and chorus on stage with Opera Favourites at the Movies.
Extra: the orchestra warming up with a sign above them allowing photos during curtain calls or between sections. It was quite odd to see them all dressed in the company t-shirt apart from the soloists who wore their beautiful stage costumes. The chorus were very loud and because they sang in front of the orchestra drowned it out occasionally. There were songs from La Traviata, Tosca, Figaro, cavalleri Rusticana, chillingly Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, and for light relief Three Little Maids from School from the Mikado and the orchestra doing the overture from William Tell. The names of the films in which they featured were put on the sign above at the end of the piece. Ones I recognised included Pretty Woman, a film I love but I am sure they just had a snippet of the music at the end, not the whole shebang! I will have to watch it again. Quantum of Solace, Godfather III, Maestro, The Shawshank Redemption, Apocalypse Now, et al!
Since they were all wearing the t-shirt it was fascinating to see the breath control and core work involved. Somewhat of a distraction watching those who could sing but maybe not act so well and noticing those whose voices were louder than the rest, not a good thing in ensemble singing! It was not a relaxing evening but always good to see live performance. Walked my friend home and walked home and arrived back just before the rain started. Looking forward to a good sleep!
