Remembering the start of our island adventures. When we moved to Muck 22 years ago today.
The children and I caught the CalMac ferry from Mallaig and in those days the ferry stopped out at sea and we were passed from a wee door in the ferry to the capable hands of Brian or Barnaby on the island boat to be taken, with the children loving the bumpy ride, through the narrow channel to the island.
All our worldly possessions were later loaded onto the island boat “Wave”.Because it was low tide when she arrived from Arisaig we had to wait until the following morning to unload. I remember thinking the children’s slide would never stay perched on top of the high pile.
The following day all our boxes and furniture were loaded onto tractors & trailers and moved down the long Stoney track to our new home.
All the island residents turned out to help us as was the island way and we instantly felt at home.
