Thank you for yesterday.

Today I went to see the film Lee, with Kate Winslet convincing as the WW2 photographer, Lee Miller. I was pleased to see something of Miller's life, something of the (unsurprising) sex oppression she faced and especially a fair few of her astonishing photos, though not in enough detail for me. I was less convinced by the framing of the story - an unnecessary distraction, I thought, made worse by the sentimental and clunky reveal at the end. There was just one line in that which I thought was important - and relevant - about how people don't see the rise of a dictator even when it's in front of them, and that could have been incorporated a different way.

Eight years ago I saw an exhibition at the Imperial War Museum of Miller's photographs. They made a bigger impact on me than this film.
