Ashes

Our rowing club was approached with an unusual request, by the daughter of an ex-member of the Portobello Amateur Rowing Club - a precursor of our current club. He and his wife had expressed a wish before dying that their ashes were scattered at sea. So today, we had two boats out after work. Because of my position in the boat, I happened to be the one in charge of the ashes. They were in a cardboard container designed for that purpose and I just had to put it the water while the two middle crew members did an oar salute. The daughter who approached us and her sister were watching from the shore. 
It really felt like a good thing to do and the family was very appreciative. 
The photo is from another club member who was on the shore with the family. As you can see the conditions were not ideal...
