Tea Factory

We kept our little hire car for a second day today and  visited the Mahé Tea Factory.
It was established in 1962 and sold to the government here on independence in 1976.
I can’t remember the name of the founder, a Mr Henderson I think and he’s still alive and living in Australia.
There are tea plantations up in the mountainous area of the island and at the factory  they dry , grade and pack the tea, either loose or in teabags. ( See LooseCanon’s blip)
They also do flavoured versions. I don’t like tea so might have liked one tasting of something else! But at the cafe there I was tempted by a chilled lemongrass ( which the factory also produces)  drink, which was delicious and very refreshing.
The view from the grounds in the photo was spectacular.
After that we went to the Takamaka rum distillery.
We’ve been sampling their products for the last couple of weeks and it’s very good! So we had to buy a bottle to take home. It was so hot and humid again today. We were forced to return to the hotel and swim in the sea, and lie around on a sun bed (in the shade) for a while.
