Chance Encounter
To Liverpool by train, where I met a friend for lunch and a good chat. Deluge like rain all day, so rather than hang around afterwards I decided to head back home.
I haven’t travelled into Liverpool by train in years. Lime Street Station features this pair of sculptures, celebrating a chance encounter between two local characters - comedian Ken Dodd, here brandishing his trademark tickling stick, and formidable Labour councillor and MP Bessie Braddock. Despite never accepting government office during her 25 years representing the Liverpool Exchange constituency she built a national reputation for her promotion of housing and social issues.
