rubble
A building along the road from us is getting taken apart in a very deliberate way. I am curious to see what they will keep and what will get replaced. A few days ago they had a digger making the windows bigger.
Monday, start of a new week. First thing I tend to do on a Monday is to review what needs to get done this week. It's a particularly huge pile with deadlines this week.
For my course I have to engage some more with AI tools. I am quite impressed what they do. I can imagine myself using it for a literature search. I found the 2 or 3 sentence summaries quite useful. The longer ones less so as the tools seem to pick up random bits. Intrigued, I also got an AI to explain a very simple bit of code. It did a really good job which leaves me wondering how the models are trained. The other thing I can see it doing is help polishing grammar and language which might well give non-English speakers a voice. So, I am a little less sceptical. However, I have some questions: assuming the AI tools work well and allow people to save some time doing menial tasks, what happens with that saved time. Can they go to the beach and drink cocktails or are they expected to do more? If they are doing more, does that lead to a reduction in the number of jobs? All the tools I looked at require a subscription beyond the free tier. Who is going to pay that? Are the AI companies just keeping the fees (minus the energy bill)? Are they going to pay for the training material? Undoubtedly I will return to these questions.
I also finished book #12, Tintenblut by Cornelia Funke. I really like her characters, they are complex, the story is pretty dark in places. I found the end less satisfying than the first one in the series, as it is obvious that there is more to come. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one.
