First day in Amsterdam
A full on day … I’d booked the Rijksmuseum and we covered three floors - wonderful paintings and I was excited to see the miniature dolls houses which inspired the novel the ‘ Miniaturist’ .
Later, in the afternoon we went on a rainy canal boat trip ( part of our Amsterdam card) . Really gave us a feel for the number of canals there are here .
We had been unable to book a visit to the Anne Frank House so we walked near it and spent a wonderful hour in the Tulip Museum which was fascinating and explained about the big ‘tulip crash ‘ in the seventeenth century when fortunes were lost ! It also explained how tulips arrived in Europe from the remote areas of Asia . I was so fascinated I started reading ‘Tulip Fever ‘ by Deborah Moggach .
