Between fen and mountains

The confluence

It is a forty mile journey from my house to a beach but only a few miles to the sea as the crow flies. It is very difficult to get to the water's edge because of the salt marsh and numerous creeks that block the way. Today I went to Cut End where, after a walk, it is possible to reach open water. This is the point at which the rivers Witham and Welland join the sea. Going down to the Wash is referred to round here as , "Going down under." Don't ask me why! Go large to see the fishing boats out on the Wash.
