Roman Mosaics at the Villa Romana del Casale.
Breathtaking mosaics, in a villa in the stunning and harsh countryside of Central Sicily. The Roman villa is near Piazza Armerina.
They are unbelievably beautiful and wonderfully preserved, as they had been buried for centuries.
From a huge range of subjects, I’ve chosen the bikini ladies but I’ve added a couple of extras too.
I first visited in 1998 and was impressed. They’ve revealed lots more. Since it was recognised by UNESCO, it has attracted thousands and thousands of tourists.
(And I found a wonderful Arancini in a snack bar by the bus park. Montalbano would be proud of me.)
