Started the day chatting to A before she went home about her evening out and what shes been up to this week. As well as going to the fungi talk she’d also been out with some people from N’s work and enjoyed it….so it’s been busier than usual for her socially!
D and I got set up for the day which looked fairly bright at first and started by walking across the Medows to Soderberg for breakfast. I managed a cardamon bun with my coffee. Whilst we were there the heavens opened, but it had eased a bit when we left to walk around EFI and from there we walked down into town. We basically wandered along George St, browsing shops, then went down to Stockbridge and browsed there, before enjoying a delicious deli sandwich in Mootz (bit too big for me despite being a smaller portion!). Throughout, we moved between bright, even warm sunshine, and absolutely tremendous downpours. Luckily we managed to be indoors at the times it was wettest, including in a little handbag shop where D got herself an amazing bargain. We saw some beautiful side tables and lamps and some lovely cashmere jumpers, but didn’t buy anything.
We then walked up to the St James Quarter and decided to take a look at the view from the top of the W hotel. Despite it being sunny at that point we couldn’t go out onto the balcony as it was apparently too windy but still got great views through the windows. Had a wander around the mall then went to book tickets for The Outrun for tomorrow and whilst up there we decided to stay for a drink as we’d been walking quite a while by then. It was nice to sit there with our drinks, apart from the occasional wafts of freshly made popcorn spoiling the ambience, and the refreshed we set off to walk down Leith Walk. We paused at Valvona & Crolla to look at the produce and discuss pasta shapes, and at a few vintage shops, then arrived at Askr for dinner. Delicious oysters, scallops, tuna and mackerel for supper and a lovely atmosphere, we really enjoyed it.
We caught the bus home then settled to watching the first episode of The Disclaimer on Apple+ which seems to be setting up a very complicated narrative!
Despite the rain it’s been a good day, and we walked 8.5 miles!
