Strange atmospherics

I went to bed early but then noticed all these posts on local social pages of sightings of the aurora and so got up and went to a South facing vantage point.  No sign of them but there was a storm out to sea which I got some shots of and then when I uploaded this image I noticed the strange bolt to the right.  Not sure what was going on then.  By this time it was around midnight.  Oh and those lights on the horizon are coal ships.

I later found out that there was a massive display of the Aurora Australis at exactly 9.09 pm.   Missed it again!

We had therapy dog assessments today and then a social get together.  It's been raining most of the day as well.  Looks like we might be in for a hot wet Summer this year too.
