Go west...

A stressful post-school drive to Rhyl with Ruth and the boys. I'd proposed that we pick them up early and leave at 1; Ruth had an early afternoon commitment that she wanted to stick to. So we crawled through Friday rush hour traffic. We were both slightly gripey with each other, each with our own preoccupations.
We eventually arrived at the Golden Sands holiday park well after 7 pm.
We're here for the 'Galactosaemia Support Group' family weekend away, the aim/hope being to meet up with other families who have a child (or children) with the rare metabolic condition that Luca has.
It's a gamble. I attended a GSG conference last year, and found it a very friendly and informative experience. Ruth, till now, has not felt ready to make contact with the network. I'm full of admiration for her for giving it a go now. I know that she both wants to meet other parents in her position and also dreads the possibility that she'll hear about difficult or upsetting experiences. Luca is doing fine; not all galactosaemic kids do. It's a genetic lottery.
So we'll see what tomorrow brings.
