waiting for the train
I took today off to join a visit of the Siemensbahn organised by the Friends of the Technical Museum. We met at the station Wernerwerke which is on a raised platform. The steel construction of the viaduct (see extra) is still sound. It just needs to get sand blasted and repainted. The main blip is of the waiting room. The blue tiles are the originals from when the line opened in 1929. We then walked along the embankment to the next station at Siemensstadt. Siemens is building a new innovation campus together with housing, a 5 minute city. As part of the plans the Siemensbahn is going to be reactivated. They hope to have trains running in 2029 for the centenary of the line. We shall see. I loved seeing the casings for the platform clocks (see further extra). It was a great day out. The sun shone and I met some nice people. I'll definitely return to check out some more bits before construction starts.
Plenty more pictures of today's adventure on flickr.
