Oh Andy

Was massively excited to cross paths with one of my favourite Villa players from the 90s, Andy Townsend, on my way to the game on Champions League night. Had a lovely chat with him while we walked to the ground. I told him I had his name on the back of my shirt as a girl. He asked me about my feelings on the game and gave me his pre-match thoughts, on his way to commentate on it. It absolutely made my night on top of the win and I couldn’t wait to tell my brothers and compare my newly acquired selfie to the photo my Mom took when I was 12 years old, a mere 30 years ago! She used to take me and my brothers to the training ground and Villa Park as a half-term treat and she was quite fond of Andy Townsend herself! My parents did so much for us and our interests, something you realise a hundred times more in retrospect.
D and I laughed to see how much I’d clearly melted at 12 next to my midfield hero and the awe was no less 30 years on. He threatened to get the photo printed on a t-shirt for me if I gazed at it any longer!
