Lightshow

THURSDAY

It was a lovely, sunny but cool autumn morning, and I spent an hour in the garden, deadheading and tidying up the pansies and violas, which had suffered in yesterday's rain. I also worked on the geraniums, hoping to overwinter them in the shed, although based on past experience, only about a quarter usually survive.

We had been invited out for lunch with our friends, Ann and Mike, at the newly opened Marian Spa and Resort near Prestatyn. The food was good, and I was impressed by the pool and gym facilities. After lunch, we popped into Prestatyn to do some food shopping at M&S and took the chance to enjoy a late afternoon cake and cappuccino.

After dinner at home this evening, we were alerted to people out aurora-spotting. Looking out of the front door, we could actually see the red and green tones in the sky with the naked eye. Excited, I decided to hop in the car and drive to the hills above Holywell, then down to the beach at Prestatyn. Unfortunately, neither location offered anything particularly spectacular.

Around 11:15 p.m., we headed back to Tremeirchion. By the time we arrived, the aurora began flaring again, so I took a walk around the village and was rewarded with a truly breathtaking display. I captured this photo near the village centre at 11:50 p.m. I stayed out until 1:30 a.m., but that's a story for tomorrow's blog!
