Monumental Scaffolding
We are showing some friends from Canada around Washington DC this weekend. It's been a while since I've done the tour guide thing, so I made it up as I went along!
I always whinge and moan when favourite buildings are being renovated, as the scaffolding looks so awful in photos. However I think the Washington Monument is the exception to this rule. I really like the scaffolding on it. It gives it a cool, modern look.
Usually you can take the elevator up to the viewing area at the top, but it is currently closed to the public while they make the building structurally sound again, since cracks developed in it after the earthquake we had here a couple of summers ago.
