Japanese Obi

As part of a young girls kimono the Obi is the broad 'belt' that is wound around the waist. It is 14 feet in length and is very beautiful with gold threaded patterns of fans, flowers and swirling waters. It is hanging in my bedroom where I can see it and not in a box under the bed with all the other parts of a kimono. The whole outfit was a present from a Japanese student who came to stay with me for a year. How a tiny very slim girl can wear a kimono beats me. There is so much to it and she needs a dresser to help her put it on properly.
