A crowded garden

That is not so crowded now.
A couple of weeks ago St saw a post on the Ask Nova Scotia group on Fb, someone was looking for some help with their garden. St put my contact information down, the people called me, I met with them, gave them a quote which they accepted and today we went in and transformed their garden.
It's a small space and it was too crowded. They have a wisteria growing over a pergola beside the steps, we pruned that. There was a grape vine planted at the corner of their shed, it was growing over the roof of their shed and it was growing over the steps trying to join the wisteria. The grapevine is now gone. There was a dappled willow planted beside the shed, it had outgrown its space, so we removed that too. There was lots of goutweed and we pulled a lot of the roots to try and control that.
On the other side of the deck there was a peach tree and they wanted it cut down. There was goutweed there too. Again, we dug around and got a lot of roots.
At some point in the last 5 years the homeowner had put some landscape fabric down in an attempt to control the goutweed. We used a heavier fabric this time and put several inches of mulch on top.
I never said anything to the customer but 5 years ago, in 2019, I did some work in their garden. We dug a lot of goutweed out then. More than we took out today. I remembered the yard. But I also remember something that happened with my workers that day. At that time I had 3 workers, and 2 of them were partners. Tara didn't have a lot of self confidence and she let Amanda control her. Tara's father had helped her buy a truck because she wanted to be a bigger help to me in the business. That day, her truck was parked on a side street across from where we were working. I asked Tara to go get her truck so we could load the debris on it, she started to get upset because Amanda wasn't going with her. I had to remind her that she was only going to go across the street to get the truck, and that Amanda would go with her went they went to the dump.
A year later, Tara, Amanda and I parted ways. Tara was like a daughter to me and at some point I would have made her a partner in the business. But Amanda got greedy and I think she was jealous of the relationship Tara and I had. There was a blowup one day and that was the end. In the long run it was a good thing for me. My business continued to grow. Tara and Amanda started their own landscaping business, but neither of them have the knowledge that is needed to be a success.
My new/old girl started working today. She worked for me 2 years ago, then became a carpenter apprentice. There isn't much work for her at this time of year, so she contacted me to see if I had anything. She was a good worker, so of course I hired her again.
