Tail-End-Charlie
This must be about the last appearance for this nettle-tap moth. I actually saw half a dozen, most on daisies but one on an osteospermum in my garden. I usually think of this as a summer moth so I looked it up and found it can be seen up to the end of October in the south of England, earlier in Scotland. This then is presumably its swan-song. It over-winters as a larva or pupa.
One advantage is that they are easier to photograph in this colder weather as they are either unwilling, or unable, to take flight.
As for its fly companion, I haven't attempted to identify it. There are too many species, all so very similar.
I am also adding a collage of the unprocessed source material for yesterday's mountain blip.
