Ferny Window

The forecast for the lakes today was sadly wet, wet, wet. So we headed to the coast.

A suggestion from John Gravett had us heading the Whitehaven for the morning. It was once the third-largest in the UK with trade links all over the world. The harbour and town are undergoing regeneration and there are heritage buildings dotted around. This is a tower on the Old Quay … I just loved the ferns growing inside trying to get out of the window.

For the afternoon we headed up to Silloth and onto the dunes at Beckfoot. Aside from the view across the Solway Firth to Scotland I was intrigued by the the number of snails on the beach. I shot one on a bit of driftwood, but when I loaded it up saw it had been photobombed by a fly (extra).

Another good day, and not a drop of water to be seen apart from the sea and on the journey back though The Lakes to Ambleside!
