Devastation
Krafla is one of Icelands most active volcanoes. For about 10 years until 1984 it was happily spewing lava out of a series of fissures and you're now able to walk about on paths across the lava fields - which are still steaming! Surreal experience.
The whole area is full of old mountainous volcanoes, cinder cones and lava fields. We also visited an area just of the main road with loads of bubbling mud pools (for some reason I can't seem to upload onto blipfolio, but will post extra when I can).
And its probably right to mention that they've built a geothermal power station pretty much on top of the volcano. Well, its been quiet for 30 years now I suppose....
