Simone's Tuesday
An early start, with Marianna working away from Sheffield and Jack needing to make a prompt start at work too. So I got to their house just after 7.30 in the morning, ready to bring S back to ours while Jack took Frieda to school.
We had a good day together. I took Simone to the regular Tuesday morning music session at the library. She loves the open space in the Children's section, with its big rug to sit on and shelves full of tempting items. Her urge to put everything into her mouth is calming down a bit, which is a relief. It was also good to meet another Nana; this one does a two hour drive from Staffordshire every Tuesday morning to look after her grandson, which means a 5 a.m. wake-up call. Once again, this reminded me how lucky we are to have Jack, Ruth and all the grandkids here. In the image, she's pondering her options in the bath: water play always works well with Simone, if she needs a shift of focus.
Later R looked after S for an hour while I visited the GP; appointments are so hard to get that fitting one in on a busy Tuesday was really worth it.
And then it was back over to Nether Edge, to collect Frieda from after-school club. By the time Jack got home from work, the girls were getting a bit frazzled but I had some pasta cooking, which calmed things down a bit.
The last chunk of the day was an evening at the Photo Society. It was hand-in night for prints for our forthcoming November exhibition, which I'm coordinating. It was also 'round one' of the members' print competition. In previous years I haven't entered this, having mixed feelings about competitions. But it's a route to showing some images and getting some feedback. As the judge got started, I was regretting putting in the entries: why go through the stress? However, I needn't have worried. He liked them both, and they both got above-average scores and good feedback. The feedback from club competition judges can be a bit random, but this time it was good to see that he 'got' what I'd been trying to achieve with the images.
