Gathering on the Green
Today I went to 'The Gathering On The Green' in Lytham. It was an anti frakking gathering and very, very interesting. There were many intelligent and articulate speakers. One speaker talked about the noise that would be created, 115 decibels from the flare off which will last 24 hours a day for 7 - 14 days per drill, and there will be 6 drills per well. Another speaker was talking about how statistically 1 out of every 6 wells will lose structural integrity, this will mean that the 500 chemicals that they pump into the wells could leak out and could leak into our water table. There will be 3000 wells in the area so that means about 500 will fail. Another speaker was talking about the processing of the water after the frak as the water treatment plants will not be able to remove the 500 chemicals or radiation. A speaker who used to work in the industry but left due to her concerns talked about how frakking organizations drill first then do surveys later. She warned everyone who owns property in frakking areas to have surveys done on their property before a frak, as the companies won't do any geological surveys before they drill. There will also be a massive increase in traffic as lorries will be ferrying around water 24 hours a day. All in all its not good news for us, our water, our agriculture, our tourism.
