Shoegaze

It's taken most of a year of not liking my old, worn out brown bike shoes enough to find a replacement.  In fact since the winter ended I've been wearing my equally old mountain biking shoes whose soles, for a change, are coming to bits much faster than the uppers and won't last forever.  But they're also a bit airy for riding in rain.  I dithered about buying a lightly used pair of quite nice Goretex bike shoes, and eventually someone else dithered less.

But here we are: these are also lightly used, but are grey instead of brown!  After cleaning them I spent a happy hour or so setting the cleats in as close a position as possible to my old ones, a task made easier because these shoes have the same sole as my brown shoes.  On the other hand, they have the same sole.  They felt alright enough on a quick pedal up and down the street though, so I will run them a bit longer at the weekend.

On a related subject, today I discovered the amazing and slightly bizarre world of alternative lacing patterns for shoes.  My old (and hitherto unblipped) pink Converse hi-tops have a terrible habit of the tongues sliding round to the side, but apparently there is a different lacing that can help prevent this.  A future blipportunity awaits!
