Visiting Elgin

Despite the wonderful birthday celebrations yesterday which continued long past my bedtime, we were up and out just after 8am en route to Elgin to get new windscreen wipers fitted. With that job out of the way, it was on to Johnston’s of Elgin to have coffee and mix with the great and good of that fair town. It is a very civilised place if not a trifle expensive. I saw a shirt/jacket that I liked but at £995, not an option!
We had a walk into the town centre past the ruins of the Cathedral which was built in 1224 and burned in 1390 by the Wolf of Badenoch aka Alexander Stewart  the son of Robert II . Unfortunately my son#1 who with his family lives and works in Elgin was not at home, on holiday with my d-in-l now that the twins have been deposited to University!

Lunch was certainly not required , so when we came home  we made a foray on to the viaduct to look down on Seatown which is a huddle of cottages  at the west end of Cullen hugging the shore.  Later in the early afternoonwe were invited to a friend’s house for tea and scones. She lives in a house that was once a boarding house  in which I think my family holidayed in 1947. Life comes full circle.

At 4:30 we joined the same two swimming companions as yesterday in the harbour pool and had a exhilarating swim while the weather deteriorated with  rain and  waves on the other side of the breakwater gathering force and breaking with much spray.

I admit to feeling a bit shattered now  and glad to sit this evening in front of the log fire with a plate of tasty left overs from last night’s party  and a glass of cider.
