Sunny Sunday at McKee Beshers WMA
A cold front moved through the Washington, DC area last night and blew out all of the haze that had been hanging around for the past week.
Since it was relatively cool and nice this morning, we took Maggie and drove to a place called McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area in Montgomery County Maryland. The area apparently is well known this time of year for its seven large fields of sunflowers that are just about to peak. I had no idea this place existed until my friend Alsacienne blipped there on July 15th.
The drive through the countryside was awesome minus dozens of bicyclists that felt that they owned the road. When we got there, it was like being at the cherry blossom festival in DC. There were scores of people taking pictures and it was hard to get an unobscured photo of the flowers. Some photographers brought step ladders along so that they could pictures from higher up. Most of the flowers were 4 - 5 feet high.
I walked to the back part of one field and then cut through to the middle where I was able to get some pretty nice shots without a bunch of tourists... I was also able to lie down and get this shot without embarrassing myself too much..
After 60 minutes in the sun, I had enough and we took off for lunch. We ended up taking a different road home and got to take a ferry across the Potomac River from Maryland into Virginia. That was pretty fun and Maggie had a great time checking the scenery out. We ended up having lunch at a dog friendly restaurant in Leesburg, Virginia. The food was awesome and Maggie had a great time hanging out with a St. Bernard.
Hope you had a great weekend and thanks for stopping to view this blip!
