Water Vole

There is an area of wetland near my home in Sussex. I visit it often in the hopes of photographing wading birds like herons and egrets. But today I was rewarded with the rare sight of a water vole. I must have watched it for about half an hour as it foraged for food among the blades of grass. It was so busy munching the dandelions that it didn’t seem to mind me watching. A little ball of fur, it could have easily fit in the palm of my hand. Several people walked past without noticing such a small creature. It reminds me of the importance of slowing down and paying attention to the little things in life.
