Grumpy Old Man

Over the border

We left Edinburgh in light rain this morning and drove down through the border country - much more autumn colour this side of the country. The weather got better as we went along. We drove through the town of Coldstream, crossed the River Tweed and arrived in Englandshire. Before too long we turned off to visit the light railway at Heatherslaw, in time to see a train arrive at the station. My Blip today shows the driver turning the loco round on the turntable to reattach to the front of the train. I wish we thought of going for a ride!

Across the River Till stands the old mill, no poem intended,  so we went over to see that. Absolutely amazing and it would have been even better had it been working, but the miller doesn't turn up on Friday, Saturday or Sunday at this time of year, though this meant that we got in for nothing! Still wonderful to see though - there's been a mill here for over 700 years!

Carried on to Alnwick and got settled into the house we've rented for the next few days.

Quote of the Day: 'Who doesn't like playing with a railway? I think we've all got Thomas the Tank Engine in our blood.' - Dick Strawbridge.
