Seeing Beyond Looking

Désalpe Semsales 2024

Yesr$terday we left home early to take part in the Alpine descent in the village of Semsales in the Canton of Fribourg. My daughter picked me up by car shortly after 7:30 am and it took about 40 minutes to get there as the main roads had been blocked to allow the cows and goats to come down from their mountain pastures. All the animals were decorate with small pine-trees and/or flowers. They wore huge bells that made a loud clanging sound.

There were hundreds and hundreds of people (I usually avoid big crowds), but we were there early enough to have breakfast, which was offered (more about that in my second collage). Then we visited all the craft' stalls and food specialities.  We had Chalet Soup in a big tent!

My grandson came around midday and he spent an hour with us before taking his mum's car which for an evening out at the theatre where a friend is playing.  My daughter and I returned by train, there is one every hour!

It was quite an exhausting day and we walked masses!  I do like traditions though and this is a typical Swiss one.

I shall make another collage of our day because I only have two extra photos left until the end of the year.
