Quod oculus meus videt

Suilven from Lochinver

Our final morning in the Highlands. I had intended to drive out for about 20 minutes to photograph Stac Pollaidh from the road to Coigach, but I’d wanted to view Suilven as well. In the end it resulted in me driving all of the way to Lochinver and ending up taking photographs over Loch Drium Suardalain.  I was fortunate to get just a brief shaft of light on the clouds that sat in the saddle of the mountain along with the plants in the water of the foreground.

Then it was heading south, via Inverness. L wanted to see Loch Ness so we headed out on the A82 and before we knew it we were in Fort Augustus. I was last hear in 1978 on a lads week cruising the Caledonian Canal. It brought back fond memories from the week with school friends as we celebrated finishing our A levels.

The sat nav took us through some marvellous scenery to rejoin the A9, before a final push across the Cairngorms to our friends in Dunecht, near Aberdeen. To my delight I was able to realise a childhood ambition to ride in a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS with Neil giving me a tour of the local countryside. I’d forgotten the thrill of sitting so low to the ground as we sped along (although getting in and out is more of a challenge these days).

We then retired to a local hostelry for a meal and some drinks, and whiled away the evening chatting away.
