A day of two halves (Day 3436)
I was awake far too early and lay around hoping for more sleep until it seemed light enough to get Sigyn out for a wander.
After breakfast and a few admin things, I headed out to the shed where I got my bench top screwed down and set about making a shelf to go above it. Many thanks to A for the offcuts of wet wall which will be put to good use making more shelves as the project continues. With the shelf made, I dragged some racking units out of the garage and into the shed and was able to get the left over timber out of the garden and into the shelf out of the way.
By the time all that was done it was time to get Sigyn out for a wander at Lyde, then back home for lunch.
After lunch, as the rain started, so did an annoyingly frustrating afternoon. We had loaned the horse box to clients of my beautiful wife, and arranged that it would be dropped off in a car park close to home. When I went to collect it (in the rain) it was nearly blocked in and was going to be tricky to get out of the space. As I was hitching it to the truck a woman drove right up to the door of the truck and complained I was "in the way". Pointing out that she would have been able to see me from the entrance to the car park, and could have chosen a different route was met with another exasperated "you are in the way!" I carried on getting the trailer sorted out and got out of her way as quickly as I could. Some people are just dumb.
Through in Stromness it took a bit of time to slot the trailer back into its place in the field without chewing the wet ground up too much with the truck. It was still raining as I filled up the trailer with hay and was about to take it round the field when the steering on the quad bike broke. One of the steering tie rod ends has broken and I will need to sort out parts and fix it. The only plus point was that it happened before I was stuck in a muddy puddle in the middle of the field. Hay distribution was much slower, walking it all out in the spare small trailer. In the rain.
The rain stopped as I finished getting the hay out and had wrestled the quad back into the horse box. The horses weren't particularly interested in getting scratches or spending any time with me today, so I slithered through the mud to get a quick pic of the view from the field.
