Rusting hulk on Inis Oirr
Took a bit trip over to Inis Oirr from Doolin today and walked round the island. Inis Oirr (East Island) is the easternmost of the Aran islands, just off the coast of county Clare. This shipwreck is famous, the ship was washed up in a severe storm in the 1960s. The crew of eleven were all taken off safely, the islanders also salvaged the cargo of yarn, stained glass and whisky (reminiscent of a similar story on a fictitious island in the west of Scotland, as recounted in Compton Macenkzie's "Whiskey Galore", based on a real event involving the SS Politician).
