Adolescents

For the first time in days we woke to sunshine.  I found this pheasant down on the riverbank on my morning walk.  It looked a bit uncertain what to do about me and my camera.  For one wonderful moment I thought it would jump in the water and swim away ;)))

I'm assuming it's an adolescent.  There are so many around.  Blackbirds with sleek body feathers but only a few tufts of down on their heads, robins with half speckled feathers and half adult.  Young everywhere you look.  All cute and all getting ready for their first winter.
