Hartley Mansion
For Wide Wednesday I thought I'd try to see what Historical buildings are in our town. I saw this one on the GPS and thought I'd check it out as I don't remember ever seeing it before. When I arrived I was certain I had never seen it before. It is now open for tours and no one lives there anymore.
The Hartley Mansion was built in 1911 by Roland Hartley who was Mayor of the city of Everett and then State Governor. ( The Hartley's came from Great Britain and His Great grandfather(back a few generations) fought in the Revolutionary War on the side of the British. After losing the war, George high tailed it to Canada. Years later Roland came to the US to join his brother in Minnesota) After his son and family left the 10,000 Square Foot house, it became a Nursing home. Dr. S Wright bought the home and did a major overhaul to return it to it's former glory. I need to tell you that the garage was two stories and has a turntable in the floor of the ground floor that holds 3 cars that allowed Mr. Hartley to just drive them straight out with out backing out of the drive! It's a gorgeous home and I would love to take a tour some time.
