The Boiler House
I've mentioned on here before that I worked for Early's Of Witney for 6 months back in 1996/97. It wasn't my greatest career move but I did get relocated to the Cotswolds. I was Operations Director and, although they didn't tell me this when they offered me the job, one of my areas of responsibility was the boiler house. I used to walk down there most days mid morning and have a coffee with the two guys that ran it. They tried to explain what they did to me several times but I never really understood. I recall that one of them looked like he used to be in ZZ Top. Possibly they both did. They said that no one from management had ever been down to see them before.
Anyway all that remains of Early's now is that boiler house, which I find a bit ironic. It makes me remember my sojourn there every time I drive past. Everything else has gone, replaced by houses. Lots of them. There is a nameplate on the side of the boiler house building, and also a blue plaque. I've added them as an extra.
A bit of history for Wide Wednesday, and part of my story.
It's been a busy afternoon and evening. We were in Witney for mrsfb's visit to the hairdresser. We had to get back for the Historical Society meeting. A talk on Roman Corinium, more history. A new initiative was introduced tonight - a bar, beer at £2 a pint. It's going to be a popular and regular feature I think.
Afterwards we watched some football. Pompey got thrashed - I think the players and manager are out of their depths in the Championship. Villa had a good win though.
