Out and About

Whitehaven Harbour -

- has been orange since 2022 when water,  obviously rich in iron ore,  started to pour from an old mine, through railways tunnels,  into the harbour down one of the culverts.   Other local Blippers will know better than me but it seems it not easy to solve. Meetings of Whitehaven Town Council, Northern Rail, the Environment Agency, Highways England, Network Rail and the Coal Authority., cannot agree what to do. .And boat owners are getting fed up because it makes everything orange.

A day exploring Whitehaven with Brother and SiL. Quite a contrast to rural Buttermere.  A fascinating history of coal mines and transatlantic trade.  A really really interesting place to visit.
