My Big Fat Greek Wedding
“By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy; if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.”
Socrates
Big day for R&B, and I’m not talking music here. The reason for coming to the Greek islands is their wedding, today, so frantic activity throughout the morning in preparation – but not for me. Not enough hair to need any special attention, clothes all laid out ready yesterday (not that a shirt and shorts need much preparation, it is a beach wedding after all). When the taxi arrived we were all ready to go, a short drive to the hotel on the beach and the guests all gathered there it seemed. Catch-up with family and friends, some had only arrived yesterday so quite a mixture. Idyllic setting of course, reminder of the time I married in Sri Lanka over thirty years ago; we were staying at a beach resort hotel with the sound of the Indian Ocean to lull us to sleep in our beach bungalow. After the ceremony, under the flower arch – that yacht was very conveniently placed – we headed up for the speeches and buffet under the afternoon sun before boogying the night away (showing my age here I think) under a starlit sky. Even managed one frenzied dance (for me) to Queen with K2 before some more sedate smooching with K1. Managed to slip away for a meditation down at the beach; conveniently placed sun beds (and some four-posters too!), and was surprised that I wasn’t the only one, spotted several others around enjoying the evening at the beach, very romantic. The Witching Hour approached and we headed back to the villa, some of the more hardy souls went on to the beach bar to continue the celebrations.
