Autumn

This is a leaf that I walked in from the garden to the kitchen. I liked the colours and texture, the black(ish) background isn't any of your fancy pants photo editing - it's the cover of my Android tablet.

In other news, back in August I mentioned that I'd got some good news, and today it became official. I've been promoted, I'm now a senior lecturer. I've known for a few weeks but was asked to keep it quiet because colleagues who were unsuccessful needed to be told about their outcome. It's not like working in other settings. In academia we have to write a promotion case, meeting certain criteria, that shows the positive difference we are making. We also have to get references from three people who will say that we are a jolly good egg; I'm proud to say that Martin was one of mine (he's a professor, innit). It all works to strict schedule, we all submit our promotion case by the same date, and then a panel meets to consider everything. 

I think I'm a step closer to a cravat and a velvet smoking jacket.
