Dundonian art

I went on an unexpected trip to Dundee today, it was great, sunny but with a cool breeze. They have a lot of bizzare sculptures scattered around, like these two that caught my eye on a way towards city centre. You can see the sad effects of two weeks of no rain as well.

Any idea what are these supposed to be, other than a caveman's golf ball and a spiky cone?
